Burning the midnight oil:.
It's the first day of the winter intersession, and already i have a lot of catching up to do...
not a great start to a new years, prioritywise, but i can hardly offer to bargain as the rest of the new year is flowing incredibly smoothly.
Undoubtedly i will pull off this all-nighter, and i am not a stranger to it, but as of now i am in the mood to recap important encounters from the past week.
right off the bat i would like to regale the lack of excitement the changing of the year brought to me in the beginning. My mom was out dancing the night away, my brother was away off in another room, and i watched the ball drop all by my lonesome self. the excitement drawn out of the event like a vampire to virgin blood (my cliche's are getting worse and worse after every post, oh well, bear with me). it was such a let down how uneventful this new years had come and gone. in comparison to the previous new years of my life i felt that it was not even a turn of the calendar, but just another wednesday into thursday. thirty minutes later my mother comes home and my brother comes into the room and we congregate into our new years festivities. the spirit was lacking from the room, the year had turned and we weren't even together for it. But alas we were together then and things started to pick up.
There was a burning desire within me to celebrate the new years. A repressed excitement inherent with me due to tradition within my lifetime when new years came with a boom, instead of a whisper. I decided to take matters in my own hands and decided on myself that i would get out and i would celebrate as best as i possible could manage. My first instinct was to call my friends, freda was first, and then vanessa. As of late that is the dream team for me, at any point of any excursion, when us three were together memories would be born, and i couldnt think of any other people i would rather spend this rather dreary new years with. Our company was expanded with the prescence of another old friend CeeJay, with him joined into our plans the new year started looking better and better.
There were no real major ideas at first, and at a point it seemed like the worst was to come and that everyone would end up staying home and the experience of a turning point between new years was not fated. As desperate times called for desperate measures i decided that there is one thing i wanted to do, and not a thing would stop me from getting to do it. I wanted to watch the sunrise...
it was a half baked idea at first but then the trip started to form itself more clearly soon after...a sunrise at a beach, a beach far from any identifiable surroundings. away from here where i could soak myself in the pureness of the sunrise without thoughts of home, or anything which i left behind. A sunrise taht would belong to me on that day on that time in which nothing else in the world could touch it.
Perhaps that is the reason i went so far out to grab my sunrise. it was to grab a piece of myself as well that i could not find elsewhere
i had my goal, and i had my friends to drag along with me as i pursued it, of course they didnt mind, and i am thankful for their company. vanessa invited Kris to come with us and we pushed towards the borders of california by moonlight.
The drive was quite uneventful, we spent most of the time talking among ourselves and laughin our heads off (at least my head) at the antics of Kris and CeeJay. I also spent the entire drive at a cautious state. If we were to make it to our destination by sunrise, i knew i had to push the limits a little and i also was aware taht by pushing the limits i was putting the trip itself at risk. always wary for that speeding ticket with my name on it, i tried to make sure that i didnt receive it on this trip.
part of the magic of not knowing where we were headed, not knowing our true destination, was searching for it on our own. It was like a magical treasure hunt, and the beach was the gold. We could have gone off on any exit, travelled to any beach, but i believe that we ended up where we ended up because that was meant for us. Everything just flowed, there was hardly any hesitation to decide where to go after our exit. it ended up being perfect...a stroll down the road along side the beach under the night sky. the pier lighted up and the beacon of lights leading to a light house. Despite the cold weather we had arrived.
It was quite a while until the sun would show itself so we huddled into the car as we waited. in a foreign place there was much room for doubt and less room for comfort. Being so close to the goal most of it didn't really matter. It didnt matter how cold we were, or how unsure we were. At the very least we were together for the new year.
At the time the sun began its rise we started to traverse towards the beach again and waited for the first rays of the new year to bask us in its glow. It took a while, but the sights were undoubtedly stunning, sights which were very uncommon for our group of friends.
There were few complaints about how long it was taking hehe, but i shrugged them off. I was at peace and i was free.
We ventured off again on the highway in attempts to continue the roadtrip, the morning belonged to meeh but i promised the day to everyone else. Everyone was hungry so we decided to look for a place to eat. As the area was quite foreign to me i decided to head somewhere familiar, Mira Mesa. i had journeyed there on a previous road trip and on my return visit i would explore it a little more further on my own.
We stopped by a starbucks and i grabbed myself a vanilla latte *that alone was an event for me, broadening my horizons from cold drinks to hot drinks finally* every time i drank a vanilla latte, i had felt that way.
while drinking our coffee freda ceejay and i chatted a bit on our endeavors. It felt like something out of a story, three close friends at a coffee shop just enjoyin each others company. it would not be the only time that day when something like that would occur.
i drove to the other side of mira mesa and we found a denny's. the gang ate breakfast there and we decided on what to do next.
